Professor DeSimone is the Chancellor’s Eminent Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Chemical Engineering at NC State University and of Chemistry at UNC. He has published over 300 scientific articles and has over 150 issued patents in his name with over 80 patents pending. DeSimone has received over 50 major awards and recognitions.

 He's taken leave to become the CEO at Carbon3D, the Silicon Valley 3D printing company he co-founded in 2013. De Simone, an innovative polymer chemist, has made breakthrough contributions in fluoropolymer synthesis, colloid science, nano-biomaterials, green chemistry and most recently 3D printing. His company's Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP) suggests a breakthrough way to make 3D parts.
